Stylists Secrets + Hair Restorative Cocktail

Everyone wants locks that glisten, and shine. You can have healthy-looking hair by following our shiny hair secrets.

If Your Hair Is Damaged

Invest in a quality deep-conditioning treatment and use it once a week. At Paul Brown Hawaii, our stylists make their own using our hydrating best-selling Resurrect conditioner, Diamond Head serum, and kukui nut oil (the ancient Hawaiians’ secret to beautiful hair). It’s an amazing, restorative mask. We called it our Hawaiian Cocktail, and it’s the ultimate hair rejuvenator.

  • The Hawaiian Cocktail
  • 1 ounce Resurrect
  • 1/4 ounce Kukui Nut Oil
  • 8-10 drops Diamond Head

Mix well in a bowl and apply to damp hair. Leave for 30 minutes or 15 minutes under heat. For extremely damaged hair from too much time in the sun or bleach and highlights gone wrong, some of the clients will leave it on overnight and wake up to baby-fine hair.

If Your Hair Is Straight

Lucky you. Straight hair has great natural shine because its flat cuticle is highly light-reflective. To get maximum shine, wash and condition your hair, then blast it with a cold-water rinse for about three seconds to seal in the conditioner, adding a ton of shine.

If Your Hair Is Curly

Curly hair tends to have more shine-reducing short pieces and split ends. This becomes noticeable when it’s blown straight, so use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and a straightening gel, such as our Stay Straight Molding Cream. Detangle with a wide-tooth comb, and as you blow-dry, wrap 2-inch sections around a round brush to straighten. Apply a finishing cream from 1 inch below the roots to the ends. And to get super-glossy curls: After conditioning hair, don’t rinse completely leave a little in. Next, apply a little gel, like Passion Shine, to damp hair and twist sections around your fingers. Let hair dry naturally.

Other Shiny Hair Secrets

DO use a gentle clarifying shampoo at least once every two weeks. It helps to remove the gunk, revealing shine. DO use your fingers to separate your natural curls once the hair is dry. A brush will cause your hair to frizz. DON’T apply finishing products too close to your scalp, your hair will look greasy. Don’t weigh down fine hair with a heavy serum formulated only for very thick hair.
